The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate souls, all possessing their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, while other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to other people can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
